The new WCA Board continued its advocacy work with a response to the January 2015 article in Velonews.com: “Women’s movement: The slow march toward equality,” by Matthew Beaudin. The article characterized the women’s cycling movement as “filled with potential, largely unrealized.” This stance heavily supports the “We can’t change the sport overnight” position of UCI President, Brian Cookson. The WCA’s response to the article, The March toward Equality Doesn’t Have to Be Slow”, calls for the UCI, the international governing body of Pro Cycling, to lead the charge for equality in women’s cycling.

WCA kicks off 2015 Membership drive with “Refer a Friend” program. Current WCA members who “Refer aFriend” to join the WCA will receive a free WCA T-shirt (limit one shirt/current WCA Member). Anyone who supports women’s cycling, and wants to see its advancement, can join or be a supporter of the WCA movement. The WCA held its inaugural Membership meeting via Webinar on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 . During the meeting, the WCA founding Board of Directors proposed a new strategic growth plan and organization governance structure, as well as a slate of Board of Director nominees for approval. Farina continued to lead the charge for the American Diabetes Tour de Cure series in NorCal on Sunday, October 26, 2014. Over 250 cyclists came out to support the ADA and raise over $100,000 to help stop diabetes.

WCA President, Robin Farina led the charge for the American Diabetes Tour de Cure Women’s Series to help stop Diabetes and get more women on bikes in 2014. Farina kicked off the series in Santa Barbara on Saturday, September 13, 2014 with over 150 participants.

August 7 – 10, 2014

The WCA joined forces with World Bicycle Relief (WBR) to create the first ever all-female team to take on the Trois Etapes Tour de France, with a goal to raise funds to mobilize women in rural Africa and promote women’s cycling around the world. Pro Cyclist and WCA President, Robin Farina, joined a team of women pros, including Evelyn Stevens of Specialized-lululemon, Four-time Ironman World Champion, Chrissie Wellington and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio of Hitec Products, as well as avid cyclists to tackle some of the most grueling climbs of the Grand Tour in the French Pyrenees. To date, the team as raised over $71,000 for WBR.

The WCA teamed up with the Sports Basement San Francisco and Osmo Nutrition for an open group ride and Cycling 101 class led by Pro Cyclist and WCA President, Robin Farina. The class included information for beginner and advanced cyclists on the rules of the road, basic Cycling Terminology and Bike Maintenance to immediately improve participants cycling skills. Osmo Nutrition was on hand sampling their line of Women’s specific hydration. Stacy Sims, Chief Research Officer and co-founder of Osmo, and Lisa Hunt of Osmo, joined in for the ride.

The Glencoe Grand Prix and WCA joined forces to host a USACRITS PRO Meet & Greet in Glencoe, Il prior to the Saturday race on May 30th. A pre-race reception was also held in Philadelphia on May 31st with pro women cyclists and special guest, the first Lady of Philadelphia, Lisa Nutter, to celebrate women’s cycling at the 2014 Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic,

The Davis Bike Club partnered with the Women’s Cycling Association (WCA) and Half The Road to host a fundraiser for their new Women’s Development Program. Pro Cyclist and WCA President, Robin Farina, along with Pro Cyclist and WCA Board Member, Laura Van Gilder and Pro Cyclist, Emily Kachorek, attended the event to lend support to the development team and promote women’s cycling. It was a very special evening in conjunction with the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Races held that weekend.

April 13 – 14, 2014

WCA President, Robin Farina, joined celebrity Chef Michael Chiarello in Napa Valley at his inaugural Bottega Gran Fondo, as a Special Guests Ride Leader. Funds raised at the weekends event went to several non-profit organizations in Napa Valley including organizations that support improving roads in Napa Valley and Bike Safety.

The WCA, in conjunction with the Napa Valley Film Festival and Michael Chiarello’s Bottega Gran Fondo, presented HALF THE ROAD, a new documentary film that explores the world of women’s professional cycling, focusing on both the love of sport and the pressing issues of inequality that modern-day female racers face in a male dominated sport. Writer/Director Kathryn Bertine joined WCA President, Robin Farina and former Pro-Cyclist and Television commentator, Bob Roll (the film’s narrator) for a post screening Q&A.
