wca_4C_logo_200pDear WCA Member,

On behalf of the WCA and its Board Members, I want to thank you for your support of the Women’s Cycling Association. With your support over this last year, we have begun to effectively make changes and build a future for women’s cycling!

It’s amazing to think that what began as a casual conversation between two women who are passionate about women’s cycling has turned into an organization where women from the Pro Peloton have put their team allegiances behind them and joined together to work toward developing and advancing the state of women’s cycling, taking the same steps leaders like Billy Jean King did for equality in women’s tennis over forty years ago. Since our official launch in August 2013, we have been amazed at the support we have received from the cycling community and beyond! This tremendous response to the WCA has demonstrated to us that there is a common desire of so many people to advance the sport of women’s cycling.

The WCA has been busy over the last year educating the public about our mission and vision and lobbying USA Cycling, Race Promoters and Team Directors on behalf of women cyclists to add women’s races, provide equal prize purse and media support. We have seen some strides with the addition of women’s races at Amgen Tour of California, Tour of Utah, La Course at Tour de France, US Pro Challenge and the Parx Philly Cycling Classic. As part of our grassroots initiatives to get more women and girls on bikes, we have built partnerships with organizations in the cycling community who support women’s cycling including, the US Bicycling Hall of Fame, Tour de Cure Women’s Series, World Bicycle Relief, NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) as well as numerous bike shops and women’s cycling teams, and we created the WCA Join The Ride Tour and Cycling 101 Clinics. We have begun to build a connection between our fans and cyclists by sharing the wonderful stories and triumphs of women’s cycling, over this last year, through our website and social media platforms. I hope you will take a moment to visit the “WCA Milestones” page on our website to get an idea of our first year activities and accomplishments.

The excitement and momentum for Women’s Cycling is at an all-time high and we are excited about the direction our sport is taking. But, there is much work to be done! The WCA has a clear vision and plan to capitalize on this momentum, to continue to work with cycling industry companies and other organizations, worldwide, as well as media to grow the sport of cycling and ensure sustainability in women’s cycling for the future.

In the next year, we will contine to lobby on behalf of women’s cycling while growing our grassroots initiatives – expanding the number of Join The Ride Tours and Cycling 101 clinics, working with local women’s cycling teams and groups, to educate women in their area about the WCA and local opportunities to participate in cycling, planning a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to women cyclists who aspire and have proven the ability to achieve excellence in their sport, at the highest level, developing a cycling and life skills program for Girls age 8-12, and much more!

I hope that we can continue to count on your support this year with your renewed membership. The WCA needs the help of individuals like you to continue our mission to inspire people and businesses to support the women cyclists who are following their athletic dreams!

Sincerely,

Robin Farina
